課程概述

This course is designed as an intensive teacher training program for students to become effective ESL/EFL teachers. It provides an overview of methods and approaches in teaching English to high school students. It also enables students to develop their knowledge in both theoretical principles and practical aspects for English teaching, particularly for course designs and teaching skills. It involves the development and evaluation of textbooks and lesson plans as well. Students are required to do the microteaching and present some selected chapters from the textbooks.  

課程目標
本課程的目標在提升學生的核心能力如下: (1)培養課程、教學與評量之知能,(2) 整合英語文學科知識與教育理論之實踐能力,(3)充實對教育理念與體制之認識,(4)具備任教學科專業之知能。進一步說明如下:
This course is intended to prepare students to be effective high school English teachers. Specific course objectives include: (1) developing teaching skills and professional knowledge concerning course and teaching material designs, teaching methods, and lesson planning, (2) increasing practice and experience in classroom teaching, presentation, and observation, and (3) improving proficiency in classroom instruction and presentation.
 
課程要求
1. Cooperate with your group members and/or work individually to prepare and demonstrate a 15 minutes teaching (no longer than 15 minutes).
2. Choose any lesson you prefer or work on an assigned lesson.
3. Evaluate your classmates’ teaching demonstration and take notes during the presentation.
4. Dress formally and properly for your microteaching.
5. Come to class on time.
* If you are 10 (or longer) minutes late for class, you’ll be marked “late” on the attendance sheet.
(845f) 0.5 point off from your final course grade
(上課遲到十分鐘以上, 計遲到一次, 一次遲到扣學期總平均0.5分)
* If you are 30 (or longer) minutes late for class or if you do not show up, you’ll be marked “absent” on the attendance sheet.
(845f) 2 points off from your final course grade
(上課遲到三十分鐘以上或未出席, 計缺席一次, 一次缺席扣學期總平均2分)
* If you are marked “absent” five (or more) times, you will not pass this course.
(本學期缺課達五次以上者 本課程學期成績 將以不及格計分)
* If you cannot come to the class meeting for a good reason, please obey the following rules:
1) 公假與產假: 最慢請於上課三日前, email告知任課老師(依email所收到的日期為準), 並於上課前備學校公文或醫師看診證明. 所缺考的部分, 可於請假完畢的一星期內找老師補考. 未能補考者, 一律以零分計算. 另外須於上課當日繳交的作業, 須先請同學代為繳交. 或於請假完畢的一星期內補繳, 若未能於一星期內補交者, 一律以零分計算.
2) 病假: 最慢請於請假次日之前, email告知任課老師(依email所收到的日期為準). 並於請假完畢一星期內, 備醫師或看診證明向老師請假. 所缺考的部分, 可於請假完畢的一星期內找老師補考. 未能補考者, 一律以零分計算. 另外須於上課當日繳交的作業, 須先請同學代為繳交, 或於請假完畢的一星期內補繳. 若未能於一星期內補交者, 一律以零分計算.
3) 事假: 最慢請於上課一日前, email告知任課老師(依email所收到的日期為準). 並於請假完畢一星期內, 備家長證明向老師請假. 所缺考的部分, 可於請假完畢的一星期內找老師補考. 未能補考者, 一律以零分計算. 另外須於上課當日繳交的作業, 須先請同學代為繳交. 或於請假完畢的一星期內補繳, 若未能於一星期內補交者, 一律以零分計算.
請注意! 請假一律不得請同學口頭代為請假,請務必寄email告知任課老師. 按規定, 缺席或請假不得超過學期上課的三分之一, 亦即本學期缺課不可超過五次(含五次), 否則本課程學期成績, 將以不及格計分. 另本學期全勤且從未遲到者, 學期總平均將予以加分, 以茲獎勵.
6. NEVER be late for or absent from your microteaching or presentation.
7. Read assigned reading and complete required assignments before class. Late papers/assignments are unacceptable. No credit will be awarded to papers/assignments coming in one (or longer) week late.
* 請務必課前預習當日課程, 並按時繳交作業, 作業統一於當日上課時收取. 作業於該日課後才補交至任課老師信箱者, 該份作業成績扣二十分. 作業應繳當日過後, 一律不得補繳, 該份作業以零分計算. 另外, 除非任課老師特別規定或要求, 作業一律不能用電子檔email任課老師.)
8. Keep your cell phone off during the class meeting or school visit.
